The Vitromusée Romont pays tribute to Max Löw (1910-1994) with the recent donation of 970 paintings under glass to the museum by his heirs.

The exhibition presents an overview of his work from the early 1960s, a pivotal moment in the life of this Basel artist who began to paint under glass. Using models as a starting point, Löw produced a continuous series of paintings under glass which, in their succession, represent a progressive journey in pictorial research. Facades, windows, bouquets of flowers, masks, etc. concentrate in their thematic repetition the problems of form, colour and material. These series reveal the repetitive nature of his approach and lead the viewer to meditate on the fascination of the artist's obsessive gaze directed towards a desire for abstraction and simplification.
